Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) are evidence-based practices that are implemented within 1:1 therapy where children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder receive one-on- one interventions according to medical need as recommended by BCBA based upon assessment. Needs can vary from communication, social skills, regulating emotions, increasing their ability to adapt to change and different environments, as well working on their cognitive and daily living skills. There are 2 types of treatments:
Comprehensive ABA is an intensive treatment plan that works on multiple areas such as communication, behavior, social skills, emotional regulation, listening and activities of daily living such as toileting and grooming. Clients also work on increasing their functional cognitive and adaptive skills. A special focus is placed on reducing negative behaviors such as tantrums, aggression, and property destruction. Clients requiring comprehensive treatment may have therapy about 30-40 hours per week.
Focused ABA is exactly what it sounds like. A treatment plan where focus is only placed on a limited number of skills that are specific to a client’s goal. Many of our clients that started in comprehensive treatment will “graduate” to this treatment plan as they learn coping skills and strategies, and are able to apply them across different settings. Clients requiring Focused ABA treatment may require 10-25 hours week.
